First served in the 1860s in Gaspare
Campari's bar in Milan, this was originally
known as the 'Milano-Torino' as Campari
came from Milano (Milan) and sweet
vermouth from Torino (Turin). It was not
until Prohibition when the Italians noticed
an influx of Americans who enjoyed the
drink and so dubbed it Americano.
We’ve created our version of this
classic cocktail and swapped out Campari for Bordiga Bitter Rosso Amaro.
The cocktail recipe itself is incredibly simple: equal parts of Bordiga and sweet vermouth, (we are using Alvear Rojo vermouth), poured over ice and then topped with soda. It's a refreshing drink that allows the bittersweet taste of Bordiga to shine. However, it's important to note that the Americano may not be for everyone. The flavour profile is decidedly Italian Aperitif which is known for its bitter taste that may not be in line with the inherent tastes of some punters. Nevertheless, if you give it a chance and train your palate to appreciate the unique taste of Italian Aperitifs, the Americano will soon become your favourite.
